Buzzer Beater

Ok so my sister is an all-star!
And yes I know it is girls basketball and we all hate on it but this seriously gives me goosebumps.

It was at the LCI high school Green and Gold Tournament.
1.1 seconds left and down by 1 point, this is Jimmer status
shot between half court and the 3-point line.

I am glad Ben and I got to watch one of her games....
Brought me back to the glory days HA!

She is seriously awesome though, way better than I was in high school!

Ode to Birthday

It is finally December-definitely one of the favored months I think.
December includes-Christmas, New Years Eve, holiday hours at the mall, getting to travel home and be with family, semesters finally ending, MY BIRTHDAY, my sign being the featured horoscope in all the magazines and.........
...........Finals.....womp womp.

For the last 4 years I have had to take a final on my birthday.
Having a birthday during finals week is not for the best-
people choose the library over your sad little party (ya bring on the sophomore year jokes),
you are so close to being home for Christmas but not quite there yet
and most of your day is spent studying and taking tests.

Apparently BYU has recognized me and my hard work in my 6 year plan here
and didn't want me to have to take a final on my birthday this year.
They decided to let us out earlier than usual for Christmas!!
I will be officially done my finals on Tuesday December 13th and en-route to Canada by the 14th.
This means, on December 16th, I will be turning 23 at home, with my love and my family with no cares in the world except which meal to request for my birthday dinner.

I am really excited about being at home for my birthday, it brings back memories of streamer-ed living rooms, my always-requested-but-no-one-except-me-really-likes-it birthday cake (black forest cake),
presents under the tree opened early in the morning before school and then wearing my new
birthday clothes to school that day.  Not to mention the rocking parties I planned very carefully for weeks and my mom driving me around to hand deliver the homemade invitations.

Birthday number 11-good times.

Thanks BYU for your complete lack of a fall break so we can get out early this year-you have made this December a much better one.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Even though I wore my flip flops to school today and the leaves
are still on the trees, our little apt. is looking quite festive!
I LOVE the holiday season.
The tree smells delicious, decorations are up, J Biebs CD may or may not be played daily
and the countdown to Christmas is officially on!
Bring on the Eggnog.

Merry Christmas to me!!!! Enjoy!

Fall Soup

If you are like me
then there is nothing better than a hearty, delicious bowl of soup
on a crisp fall day.

I made this soup the other night and we loved it and ate it for the next couple days.
It is my mom's recipe and now one of our family favorites!
It is really easy, just the simmering and vegetable chopping takes the time.

Tortellini and Italian Sausage Soup
(you could totally make it vegetarian too if you don't like sausage, but the Italian stuff is pretty good)

1 pound of Italian sausage cooked-put in lots of water and cook and cut in circular slices
¼ cup of coarsely chopped onion (can use more if you like more onion)
2 cloves garlic crushed
5 cups of beef broth
½ cup water
2 cups chopped tomatoes-diced tomatoes-I like to puree in majic bullet because I don't like the chunky tomatoes
1-2 cups thinly sliced carrots
½ teaspoon basil
½ teaspoon oregano
8 ounces tomato sauce
2 cups tortellini
3 tablespoons chopped parsley
1 green pepper chopped
1 sliced zucchini

Brown meat in water, sautee garlic and onions in drippings
In a big pot-add broth, water, diced tomatoes, carrots, basil, oregano, tomato sauce, sausage
Bring to a boil
Reduce and simmer for ½ hour
Skim fat
Add zuchinni, tortelli.,parsley and green peppers
Simmer for 15 minutes
add tortellini and simmer until tortellini is tender
Serve with a little cheese on top if you want

Well it wouldn't be Thanksgiving without a post about what I am thankful for.
As you know, I am Canadian and we celebrated our Thanksgiving back in October
but we really did have a great week off!

Inspired by this blog I stalk, I am going to do a post of things that make me really really happy.  She has guest  bloggers come on and they do their own lists so today I will do mine of things I am grateful for, which of course make me terribly happy.

10 Things That Make Me Terribly Happy

1.  That I get to see my family and be home in 20 days
2. When Ben's feet touch mine in the middle of the night
3. Freshly vacuumed carpets
4. Seat heaters
5. The feeling I get when Ben comes home from work or school
6. Long phone calls with my mom
7. Justin Bieber's Christmas CD
8. Long games of Rook or Settlers with friends that go into wee hours of the night
9. My bed.
10. Finding the perfect gift for someone you love

Of course I have so much more to be thankful for, I am mostly thankful for the people in my life, and how each of them makes me feel.  I am of course thankful for the knowledge that comes from the Gospel-that I can spend eternity with my family and that I am a loved daughter of God.

This week off was much needed and I am so happy that we have one more day-a lazy Sunday before school is back in session.

my heart's a stereo...

So, because I want this blog to serve as a kind-of journal thing
to document our life,
I want to remember the little things...
Like our car game!

Ben and I drive a lot, and we listen to the radio a lot.
We noticed, as I'm sure all of you have that the radio plays the same songs over and over again...
We decided to make a game out of it.

When we are in the car, we each go back and forth picking three songs each that we think will be on
from then until we reach our destination.

Ben picks--Maroon 5Moves Like Jagger, Rihanna-We found love, Gym Class Heroes-Stereo Hearts

Cassie picks-Cobra Starship-you make me feel, Katy Perry's new song-The one that got away, Rihanna-We found love

Then we start going through our 6 preset top-40 radio stations.
If your song comes on-you get a point!
You would be surprised at how often your song comes on, sometimes even twice in the same drive!
The other day from our house to church, Ben set a record and got six points-each of his songs were on twice on the different stations-I was livid, it will be hard to come back from that.

Here is the scorecard we keep in the car-we have been playing for like a year!

As you can see Ben is currently winning.
Anyways just wanted to document this little game we play...
First one to 100 wins!

So no, we are not doing the whole not shaving for a month thing around here,
that would be much too itchy and prickly!
We ARE doing something else this fall month though....

I need to preface this announcement and tell you all how big of a deal this is...
Ben and I love to eat out, LOVE IT!
I love the food, I love how it feels like a date and so social when we go with friends,
I like trying new places and going back to our favorites as well.
On average we eat out 3 to 4 to 5 times a week.
It is not that I don't like to cook, because I really enjoy that too,
It's just that we love going out to the bountiful restaurants in Provo.
We come home from a busy day at work and school and it is so fun to narrow it down to where we are going to eat-Cafe Rio? Rubios? Gurus? Five Guys? Noodles and Company?

Anyways we had been noticing that this hobby was taking all of our money
and so when our friends Jordan and Britton told us they were going to not eat out for the whole month of November, we accepted the challenge!

It has been 15 days, I have to close my eyes when we pass Cafe Rio
but it hasn't been too bad, except for when I want to cheat everyday.
Amazing pumpkin cookies we made! Thanks Marty for the recipe!
It has forced me to use stuff in my cupboards that I wouldn't otherwise,
and bake more because we can't go out for dessert!
We made a little contest out of it and if one of the couples breaks and eats out,
they have to take the other out for dinner! (Contest Clause 1-You can eat out if someone else pays for you ie-parents, gift certificates, loser of contest etc.)

So far in half a month I bet we have saved about 200 dollars!
And I even have shed a few pounds from dining in.
15 more days to go!

So that's what we are doing for NOvember
and hopefully this will get us in the habit of eating out less after the contest is over...maybe...

The following photos are intended to break our competition

It started like any other day,
I was on Pinterest...
ohh....something catches my eye
Next thing I know..."Thank you!  Your order with is confirmed!
Your "Tapi" is on it's way from Australia to you and will be there in approx. 12 days"

I had bought he Tapi.
What is the Tapi you ask? know when you are brushing your teeth and you want a drink of water to wash it all down with?
Well the Tapi is a simple fix to that problem!
No more reaching your head way underneath and seeing the gunk in your sink
No more leaving a cup in the bathroom for weeks on end that gets crusted with dried toothpaste and dust
Now all your problems are solved with this simple brilliant invention.

Behold The Tapi

You just put it on your tap like normal, and then when you need a quick sip you just pinch the bottom and you have your very own drinking fountain!

So yes we now have our very own Tapi, there was one problem....
It didn't fit on our bathroom sink...oops!
It now resides on our kitchen sink, and I don't usually drink from the tap in the kitchen but it is still really cool!
It was very much an impulse buy, and the shipping cost just as much as the product, but I do not regret my Tapi.

This site actually has some pretty amazing inventions, you should check them out!

Tap on, Tap off, THE TAPI!

cider and spice and everything nice

So, Ben and I made a Fall to-do list this year and so far we have done pretty good.
I decided that Fall is my probably myfavorite season....
It's not too hot and not too cold, all you need is a light jacket!
I refuse to believe that winter is here already so we still have time to finish our list.

We have...
carved pumpkins
ate pumpkin everything
drank apple cider
went to a haunted house
went on drives up the canyon
ate candycorn
and taken lots of pictures

we still  need to...
make lots of soup and stew
be thankful
dress up for Halloween--ok I guess it's a little late
decorate for Thanksgiving
bake more

It has been a really great Fall so far!

oh ya we got a new car...well new to us...we love love it!

Went to St. George for Alex's adoption and sealing

This was the extent of my Halloween costume....Ben had to work the 31st :(

And the extent of my Fall/Halloween decoration
Not quite a pumpkin patch like I wanted but close enough

Pumpkin heads
Sweet and Salty pumpkin seeds

Jennica's then Jordan's=awesome, mine= amateur hour

If fall could hold out for just one more month and at least let us have leaf piles for Thanksgiving
instead of snow...I'd be very thankful

Happy Season!

Well there have been a lot of milestones around here lately.
This past weekend was the one year mark for my favorite
 brother Matt on his mission.

Matt is serving in the Santiago North, Chile Mission and
I am so proud of him!
I can't believe it has been a year already.

Matt and I are really close and I love being around him, I miss him soo much!
I was so worried about him when he left, that he would be safe and happy and not homesick
and get along with his companions, and Matt has showed no fear from day one.
He is such a strong person who everyone loves to be around,
No more worrying, he is doing awesome!

Matt is one of the funniest people I know, he seriously can make our family laugh at all times.
His emails are one of the highlights of my week because he is still so himself, still makes me laugh so hard but I can see him growing and being an amazing missionary each week as well.

He is officially on the downward, and the countdown begins.
I have so much respect for him and every week when he writes home I am amazed at the
task that missionaries do.  They are changing people's live for generations to come and preparing
to be the best versions of themselves-better husbands and fathers and people.
Because my brother chose to serve a mission, People's lives in Chile will be changed forever-how cool is that!?
I was a little emotional dropping him off at the MTC

I love you and am so proud of you Matty!
Can't wait to seeeeee yyyyoooouuuu!!
Go burn a shirt! haha

...Insert cliche title about Vegas!

Viva Las Vegas!
What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas
Sin City!

What you will.

So Ben and I have been planning a trip to Vegas for our one year anniversary for a while now!
Instead of doing presents we decided to do this trip and go all out!
It did not disappoint!
It was a Vegas glamour glitz, yet cozy and relaxing weekend and we loved it.

We got a room upgrade when we got there!
We ate amazing food-including The Cheesecake Factory and The Hash House
which has been featured on The Food Network and Man vs. Food.  It was out of control huge and delicious!! (Thank you Kristy MacLennan for starting this love affair I have)
We stayed at the Mandalay Bay and laid out on the "beach".
We won some blackjack.
We strolled and shopped the outlet malls.
We walked the strip and saw the fountain show...a few times
We slept in.
We got a couples massage!

Best. Year. Ever.

On Sunday, Ben and I celebrated our first year Anniversary!
We made it!
And Ben,
like the famous Mr. Darcy once said to the love of his life, Miss Elizabeth Bennett,

"You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you"

That pretty much sums it up!
I feel lucky everyday.
One year ago, we were starting this crazy year!
It's been Soooo fun, and happy and sad, and hysterical, and stressful, and loving and strengthening and I can't wait for a bajillion more with you!
It really was the best year ever.

After one year, I am finally saying my name with your last-
and it sounds just right.

Loud and Proud

Ok I'm just going to say it-
The Emmy's were last week and I felt proud of the wonderful world of television.
that I feel so much a part of.
Ok I know there are haters out there who think TV is a waste of time,
turns your brain to mush and trashy but haters gonna hate.

I am proud to say I love TV!  I finish everything I have to do as fast as I can
so I can watch my show, I have spent hours looking for free streaming online that night because I can't wait till the next day when the new episode goes on or something. I sometimes watch an episode with Jennica even if I already watched it the night before, and then again with Brian, I get butterflies during the last few commercials because I am so excited for it to come back on and summer is not my favorite season because TV takes it break!

For myself, watching my favorite shows is a way for me to relax, take a break from
everything and just immerse myself in another magical world,
I do my homework on time, I still read a lot, I excersise sometimes, so I totes deserve my TV time!
I laugh, I cry, I scream, I hurt, I have joy
for my characters (my friends) haha every week.

So September is obviously one of my favorite months because of all my season premiers!
It's a little bitter sweet though because at the beginning of the season they have to create a lot of drama so all of my friends are in emotonal turmoil at the moment.  Mer and Der are on the rocks, Stephan is giving into his dark side and pushing Elena away, House is in jail, Quinn isn't in Glee club anymore, Pete might be dead, and Blaire might marry the wrong man! At least I have Modern Family and Community where all problems are solved in half an hour.
If any of that made sense to you, you have to admit it, you are a TV junkie!  Say it loud, Say it Proud!

So now that I am completley out of the closet, I guess there is no harm in giving a preview of my average week:

Monday-Gossip Girl. House (Bachelor/Bachelorette when in season)
Tuesday-90210, Glee, Pretty Little Liars
Wednesday-Modern Family
Thursday (golden TV day)-Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice, The Vampire Diaries
Sunday-Desperate Housewives, Dexter, Keeping up with the Kardashians

Lets have a moment of silence for some shows I love but are not on anymore-Brothers and Sisters, One Tree Hill (still on but dead to me without Leyton) and Off the Map-loved all 10 episodes before got cancelled.

I know a lot of you are thinking "this girl spends like 13 hours a week watching TV-what a slob"
and to you I say-Watch this:

Doesn't that just make you want to jump up and get a Tivo!
So now you know my obsession, I love TV, Dramas, Comedy, ok mostly Dramas but I am so not above Keeping Up With the Kardashians!
I am a little embarrassed about this post but I hope if I can even help just one person who might be scared to start a new show, or watch 3 whole seasons in one weekend have the courage to do it, then this was worth it!
TV is a vast wonderland.
