Some Saturday Things

This post is.....

  • I can't stop taking pictures of Ben and Everett's hands together (Everett is even tanned a little) I swear my husband is Caucasian!  I truly envy his skin tone.
  •  We discovered a splash pad, well we discovered the beauty of splash pads in general.  It took a couple days for Everett to get brave but now he is the king of this pad. We get some fro-yo, walk 20 steps to the splashpad and commence in the take a bite, run out in water, come back, take a bite, run out in water sequence.  Ps. Keylime fro-yo with cheesecake bites is the best maybe ever.  Splashpads are the best thing to ever happen to a baby's summer.Look at that face!! Can we get a zoom in on that...

Pure JOY

  • Everett still loves the beach and it is the best thing ever-cheap, free, gorgeous entertainment.  We tackled the beach by ourselves this week, just me and Everett and I learned my lesson and paid the 2 bucks for parking instead of walking a mile with two beach bags and a baby. We parked a spot right by the pier, played in the sand, ate fruit snacks and dipped our feet in the ocean.^^^I can't stop putting this weird filter on beach pics.
Who is sick of 'us on the beach' pictures?

  • Do you guys know the magic of ebay? Let me tell you-I got these (very slightly used) saltwater sandals for Everett for only $9.99 (regulary $38) and they are in amazing condition and fit perfectly. #WINNING
  • ^^^I just need a matching pair now #motherboy
  • This was me when I finished watching all 3 seasons and the new movie of Veronica Mars:

I am so sad to be all caught up and done! I am really going to miss those guys in my daily life. Although the movie was EPIC (for those VM fans out there you know I chose the word EPIC carefully) LE&VM4EVA!
  • Everett's hair right now is such a delicious perfect little mop, it is getting so blonde, little nap curls in the back, verging on a mullet and smells like sunscreen.  I LOVE it.  The world seems to be divided on little boys with long hair, they either love it or they hate it. I am a LOVER and there will be no haircut for years I presume.
  • After days of googling and deliberating and hours in the ULTA store, Keelia (my cousins wife/summer sales BFF/favorite person/ring and nail soul sister) and I have found the perfect summer nail polish. It is fresh, dainty but bold and makes you look tan!  On one hand, pun intended, I want to keep this discovery all to ourselves.  On the other hand I feel like it needs to be shared.  Ok fine-the perfect summer nail polish is Essie Fiji. Go henceforth and buy!
  • I also found the best, most perfect summer playlist.  Everett and I danced so hard to it this moring he threw up, truth.  It is here on Spotify here

And that is all.

Currently.... {California}

He rocks.

We have arrived in California and it has been pretty great so far.  I mean, Ben works really long days so we don't get to see him as much as we would like, but the California part has been top notch! We went to the beach last week.  I didn't think Everett would like it and we wouldn't last long but I was so happy to be so wrong.  He was in his element!  I have maybe never seen him happier? We would try to take him out of the waves thinking he would be cold and he would just turn and run back in as fast as he could.  Not only that, but he LOVED the sand, he was laying in it on his tummy, making sand angels, scooping and bucketing all the sand he could, shoving it every crevasse and crease possible! Who knew my Canadian white-as-rice baby would be such a beach bum.  I can't wait to go back!  Here is some other riff-raff going on.

Every day at approximately 10am, the sun hits our little porch/balcony perfectly.  And every day at approximately 10am Everett goes down for a nap. At approximately 10:15am, you will find me out there in swimsuit and SPF 30 getting my bronze on.  It's a pretty great schedule thing we have going on. ba dum-dum dum-dum-dum

To get my butt into shape.  I know I have said this before but I have never really felt worse about my body than I have right now. I guess after I did Insanity and didn't lose a pound, I just felt like it was pointless and haven't put much thought into eating great or exercising like I should.  Suddenly in California where swimsuit opportunities are popping up, I am regretting that decision.  I need to do SOMETHING, but I'm not sure what to do.  The trendy whole 30? Smoothie something?  The thing is, from past experience I need something structured and with rules or I don't stick to it.  Any ideas people?  Plus I'm still breastfeeding so there's also that excuse/justification for the extra calories I've been telling myself.

I know I am (literally) 10 years late to the party, but I am loving Veronica Mars.  Kristen Bell is my girl and Logan Echolls is the dreamy reformed (ish) bad boy.  Makes me want to be a high-school detective or something. But seriously, it's like a cult classic and just this year, the fans raised like 8 million dollars on kick-starter for a fully funded Veronica Mars movie. I dig it. I am completely addicted and dream about it almost every night haha

All the rings.  I want all the rings in the world. I want my hands to be heavy with all the rings I'm wearing.  Last night my friend and I spent like 2 hours on Etsy and other sites just looking at and analyzing rings.  "Could I build a life around this ring?" was asked more than once. This or this is my top pick for my next ring and I am also loving this and this. My favorite ring (besides my wedding ring is my push present (you know, for pushing out a baby) from Ben-it is this tiny gold heart ring, and I want to get one for every one of my babies to stack eventually.  This one would probably be next.

Californian spammin:
Everett, Keelia and I visited the Ventura harbor on maybe the windiest day ever.
Pure Joy.
Something I really appreciate about California-they really beautify their spaces. And said tanning balcony.

Days Like These...

My guy and I on Mother's Day

Everett and I are leaving Alberta and heading to sunny California tomorrow. Although I am really anxious to see Ben and excited about a new place, I will be really sad to leave my home.  I don't know if it is normal to love being home as much as I do, but I really love it.  I like to be constantly surrounded by my family and I realized that I can have some pretty lonely days in Provo and as much as I sometimes hate on Lethbridge, I really do like it here. a lot.

A day in Canada: we wake up to a hustle and bustle (which I love, and so different from my house in Provo where Ben works night shifts so mornings are really quiet)  My parents are getting Hailey ready to go off to school, my dad and matt are trying to get off to work and no one can leave the house without breakfast, it is a very important meal in this house.  Toast is the staple breakfast of choice-raisin toast with extra butter these days. A few days, my parents will watch E and I go back to bed for an hour or two for a nap and oh my goodness, those naps are the best naps of all the naps!

Then things quiet down, everyone leaves, Everett goes for a nap and my mom checks the weather.  My dad has already probably checked it that morning and the night before.  When I am in Utah I never check the weather but here in Lethbridge people are obsessed with it (and in Celsius I might add).  The first few days I got here it snowed and was ugly, and then again a week later.  Although the last three days have been really really nice and the thing about Lethbridge is, people appreciate a nice day so much more.  Literally every person you come across will say 'what a beautiful day eh?' (the eh is not an exaggeration) and they are not just saying it to make conversation, they are just really appreciative.  My mom spends all the time she can outside on a day like this, sweeping and raking and flowering.  Everett is right beside her 'helping' sweeping and shovelling and playing with the wild(ish) kitty cats who live in our garage and hunt the mice on the acreage.

Then we debate whether we should go try out that new poutine place for lunch, but probably end up just going to Costco for their fries and gravy.  At Costco you run into 18 people you know-it is the Southern Alberta meeting hub apparently and always always get fries and gravy.  I wonder why this is not a food combination America has not adopted yet-it is so so delicious and satisfying and just makes perfect sense if you ask me. "Do you want a side of gravy?" is the first thing a server will ask you here if you have anything with fries and that is how it should be.

Then we maybe run into The Great Canadian Superstore really quick so I can stock up on some Canadian candy and check out their baby clothes, because for some odd reason, the superstore has killer baby clothes.

On the way home we stop at Mac's where I get a Coke slurpee.  America does a lot of things really well.  Canada does a few things really well-One is chocolate, another is hockey, our banking is pretty advanced and another is slurpees. I am not even being bias here but Canadian slurpees are so far superior to the foam America calls slurpees that you cannot come here without trying one.  I absolutely insist that you do.

When we get home, the hustle and bustle is starting again-Hailey is home from school, my mom is wondering what to make for supper and the guys will be home from work soon.  Everett makes a complete disaster of the house leaving messes wherever he goes and we find something new to play with or go outside again for the 20th time that day because that boy loves being outside.

We eat supper together and it always delicious and I come to the conclusion after eating at home for a week or so that I really am not a very good cook like my mom and we eat out way too much.  Everett goes into the bath, comes out after he is done to run around buck naked and show off a bit before I wrangle him into a diaper and pajamas and get him off to bed.

Then we watch Survivor (just like we did when I was in 8th grade I'm pretty sure) or Shark Tank or Greys and stay up way too late, because the next morning we all vow to go to bed early that night because morning comes way too quick.  And if it was a night like last night, my mom and I save a poor helpless bunny who is stuck on the deck from being murdered by a disgusting spawn of satan cat that looks more like a racoon-badger #farmlife

This might sound cheesy and actually just a very normal day, but they are my favorite and we'll miss it. Oh Canada.

19/52 +Rocks and Sticks+HMD!

There are very few things I love more than that miniature profile

Well we have been home in Lethbridge for a week now and it has been pretty wonderful (we are just missing our significant other).  Everett has loved being around his grandma and grandpa and my siblings and exploring new places. Before I even can get to him waking up in the morning, he is already pointing to the door to go see everyone!  Then, from the moment he gets out to the living room he is pointing to go outside.  My parents live on a little acreage and on the (two) nice days we have had since we have been home, it has been a pretty magical place for a one year old.  Trees and rocks and sticks and balls and new little kitty cats he is pretty fond about.

Here are a few more shots I took of him playing outside.

Also....on this Mothers Day I feel so happy (despite the 22 times Everett woke up last night).  After I was already sleeping, Ben texted me some Mothers Day love and he said 'I love how obsessed you are with our child' and it is true, I am completely obsessed with Everett-I never knew I could love like this. Best gig there is!

Of course the happiest of MD's to my mom and mother-in-laws.  My mom is my best friend, the reason I always used to run out of minutes on my phone and shows me daily the mom I hope to be.  A shout out to both my mother in laws, you are the reason my little family exists and are such great examples to me daily. Everett just has the best grandmas.

To all the moms and future moms-Happy Mother's Day, we're doing good!

Ps-one of my favorite posts-My first mothers day post and just one more on how I am totally 'becoming my mother'.

Everett: A Nursery

Well we headed out of Provo for the summer last week. E and I are in Canada, Ben is in California where we will join him in a couple weeks. I am already missing our little place we call home and even though we will be coming back to our same place at the end of the summer, I thought I better finally document Everett's little nursery on the blog.  I love his room, and it has been perfect, but I already feel like he is outgrowing it, and he needs a more big-boy less baby room.  I have got big plans for a change when we get back so this is how it is right now.

I love this room because I dreamed and planned and prepped while I was pregnant.  We read books over and over again in this room.  We have spent countless hours nursing in that rocking chair, we sleep trained in here, we play peek-a-boo in his crib, he spent his first night away from sleeping next to us in here, we take out all the clothes out of every drawer in here, we changed every diaper and got ready for bed on that changing pad singing a made up lullaby inspired by the alphabet poster I made on the wall.  It is so weird how a little space in a random apartment in Provo has become so significant to me.
Shelving unit: Home Depot, E letter made by me, wooden airplane: The Wooden Giraffe, teddy bear: mine from when I was little.
Paper airplane wall decal: made by my mom, glider: target, dresser: ikea, Canadian Moose stuffie: Ikea

Elephant Print: Cinnamon Ink Etsy, mobile: Wee Gallery, Alphabet cards: free printables from here

Posters made by me (middle one inspired by this), family tree chart: Ichartyou

Crib: Walmart, elephant blanket: made by my Grandma MacLennan, blue blanket: gift from my mom when Everett was first brought home from the hospital

Striped throw: West Elm, Quilt: made by my cousins, backpack: Skip hop, Personalized bunnyhood bath towel: gift from uncle Micheal and aunt Eujean

Bunting above window: custom order by HEM design on Etsy.

I kind of love stuffed animals (not in a weird adult sleeping with them kind of way, just to kind of collect well made adorable ones) and have been accused of buying them more for me than for Everett since he hasn't made a particular bond with any of them.  Both teddy bears are mine from when I was a baby, my favorites are jellycat stuffed animals (the lion and the elephant).

So that is his little baby nursery, of course I never completely finished it, I had big plans to make my own curtains and put some more prints on the wall and find the perfect rug but oh well-next time!

17/52 18/52

A Photo Series 'A picture of my child once a week, every week for a year'

These have already made an appearance on my instagram, but here are the last two weeks pictures. The first one was not taken on my real camera but just my phone but I love it too much not to use it as last weeks picture.

Everett was having a miserable day of teething and being stuck inside all day on this particular day so we went and splashed in the rain and examined some worms and he was happy for about 7 great minutes.
