Patrick: One Year

weight: 18.5 (6th percentile) height: 29 inches (23rd percentile) head circ: 45.9cm (43rd percentile)
6 teeth, size 4 diapers.

My baby is a year! I know I have said this over and over but it's hard to remember a life without him, he just fits. This morning I took Everett to the store while Patrick was napping at home with Ben and Everett kept asking "where's Patrick, I want him to be here with us"  He is such a happy kid, who would have thought after this first 4 months of his life where he screamed non-stop!  He is clingy to us but also waves and says hi to anything that moves.  Here is what is new with Pattywack:

  • Waves frantically and says hi
  • Points and 'ooohhhhsss' and 'woooooahhh" at EVERYTHING
  • Starting to want to walk, can stand up on his own and his record is about 7 steps
  • He doesn't crawl down the stairs anymore, he lays flat on his tummy and slides the whole way down
  • All of a sudden likes baby food again. YAY! Pouches are so convenient.
  • Loves to put things in other things like crayons into vases or toys into buckets
  • Will entertain himself as long as I am doing nothing, but if I am trying to do something he wants contant attention HA!
  • Says mama, night night, bubbles, hi, dada (sometimes)
  • Starting to dance when he hears music
  • Still despises the car seat
  • ALWAYS has to be holding something in both hands-preferrably markers
  • FREAKS OUT over animals. LLOOOVVVEEESSS them.
  • Still a really bad sleeper but better than he once was. I am planning to wean him in the next month or two and hopefully he sleeps better after that.
  • DIE HARD nurser. Loves it more than life itself.
Happy birthday Pumpkin, I can't believe I was so lucky to get you!

Here is a little video I made for his first year!

Currently-This Post took me 14 days to finish....

Started writing on Saturday October 1st....

HAPPY SATURDAY THAT FEELS LIKE A SUNDAY! It is LDS General Conference this weekend which means home cooked cinnamon rolls from scratch (or in my case I just go buy donuts) and watching the leaders of our church give amazing talks from the comfort of our pajamas.

Speaking of pajamas. It seemed more than once this week I changed my kids from their pajamas from the night before to new pajamas at about 6:30 at night meaning we had been in our pj's and not left the house at all. I actually googled 'how to make yourself become a morning person'. Patrick's sleep habits are making me a zombie. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER LADY!

Lets talk the magical world of TV! Did you watch the emmys? I actually was that person who had to miss it so I watched it the next day, who watches award shows the next day? ME! I have been binge watching the crap out of Jane the Virgin, I mean binging so hard that I turn it on my phone and turn on the subtitles so I can watch while I blow dry my hair. TEAM RAFAEL FOREVER AND IF YOU ARE NOT YOU CAN GET OUT!!  Ben and I finally jumped onto the "Stranger Things" bandwagon and what a nail biting, all consuming wagon ride that was. I am such a baby when it comes to scary stuff and could not fall asleep for hours after we watched it at night because I was too scared, but at the same time I was so into it and so intrigued I couldn't wait to watch the next episode. In the end, I had to watch it without Ben because I had to watch it in daylight hours. Also, remember how I was so excited for the new show "This is Us'. I loved it. I don't know if it will ever be able to be the new Parenthood, but I still have high hopes for it. Also it's fall and all the shows are coming back on and "it feeels like hooooommmmeeee to meeeee"

I won a bet with Ben the other day and my prize was a trip to IKEA by myself. Which was super awesome, until I realized I was at IKEA  on a Saturday and also had to load a gigantic desk and it's heavy counterparts into my cart and then van BY MYSELF. Still worth it. We got a new desk, and some plants, and some shelves. THIS IS THE LIFE PEOPLE! Wanna see?
"He say me have to work work work work work"

Stopped.....Continuing now a week and a half later on October 10th.....

Just kidding, Dancing with the Stars distracted me, it is now October 11th naptime...

I'm currently planning Patricks Candy Bash 1st Birthday, trying to keep it low key and simple, but I gotta admit, I sure like to go a little crazy with birthdays! Check out these cutie pie roll up candy invitations I made-got the idea from Oh Happy Day blog!

We went to St.George last weekend to visit Ben's brother and his wife and got to go out for our six year anniversary to a fancy schmancy restauraunt on a cliff overlooking St.George. It was so great, we need to go on more dates. We made a pact to each other that for our ten year anniversary we would take a kid-free trip somewhere off the continent.  For a anni present I asked for family pictures, but not just that, I wanted Ben to be PUMPED about family pictures!

Halloween is cccccoooommmiiinnngggg! The weird thing is, I don't even love Halloween that much, but I LOVE dressing up the kids (and pumpkins and candy, ok maybe I do love Halloween)! Every year I say this will probably be the last year where I have creative direction over Everett's costume before he wants to be Batman or Ironman or something but somehow he keeps letting me choose. This year is a surprise but hopefully it turns out as good as they have in years past.

Ok I found this local company that makes the cutest prints. How cute is this heart print collage print, and so affordable. I spent an hour or two making like 20 options....I can't decide-veritcal or horizontal? Can't wait to hang it.

Ok Patrick's up, a solid 24 minute nap, I'll be back, or maybe not because this post is heading to 'no one cares' pretty fast here...

FRIDAY OCTOBER 14th Ok the kids were sick all week and I got absolutely nothing done, except get full blown thrown-up on multiple times.  I should probably just delete this post because was I talking about the emmys up there ^^^ ??? That was like a month ago buttttttt, nope, I'm going to keep going.

So it was Canadian Thanksgiving this last weekend and it dumped a huge white snow on my parents house and where I am from and I was really homesick. The point is, I started shopping online for winter clothes for Everett. I wanted to get him a really good warm pair of boots to play in the Canadian snow. Sorel boots are the best quality but they are so expensive-like $70 for toddler boots. Did you guys know I buy a lot of stuff on ebay, so I found a barely used pair of cute Sorel boots in his size and I won the bid for $8.76. Seriously that gives me a hhhiiiigggghhhhh!!

I really really want this mockneck sweater

and these pants for Patrick and these sweaters for the boys.

I really loved this blog post this week about spacing your kids and being ready.  And this insta from Jennaskitchen spoke to my soul. I don't really have any friends here in Provo besides my sibs and cousins and it has been hard. I'm working on it. I wrote this blog post basically as advice to myself for the Baby Cubby on making mom friends.

Ok I'm really done. I am PRAYING Patrick is feeling better tomorrow and that Ben and I don't get sicker so we can get this family to a pumpkin patch already!!!

Patrick: 11 Months

Only one month until my baby is a one-year-old! Stop it! He is still such a little baby to me and I adore him. He is so sweet these days and I have so many heart swelling moments with him. Don't get me wrong, he is still exhausting, he doesn't sleep well AT ALL and is in a clingy stage but he makes up for it in scrunched up face smiles and open mouthed kisses.  He is the speediest crawler I've ever seen. Why is babies crawling as fast as they possibly can the cutest thing in the entire world. I seriously love it when he jumps out of my arms, puts his head down and moves his arms and legs as fast as they will take him to whatever his object of affection at the time is.

Ok, so I know not everyone will believe me but Patrick is incapable of sleep training. He is un-trainable. We have been sleep training for over a month. I have read every book and method, I don't rock or feed him to sleep anymore, I've tried having Ben putting him to sleep, and we have him cry himself to sleep in an effort for him to learn how to put himself back to sleep everytime. He still cries for long periods of time before falling asleep, he still wakes up 4+ times a night and he only takes about 30 minute naps. So, since I felt like I was being so negative about the sleep thing and him, I've just accepted that I probably won't get a good sleep until I wean him and hopefully then he will be able to sleep better.

My favorite thing he does right now is he loves when any of us sing and joins in and 'sings' (yells) along with us. He especially loves the Little Mermaid song.

  • Can stand and climb and cruise but shows no desire to walk.
  • Still loves to wave and clap
  • Signs more
  • Says mama, dada and night-night and imitates most sounds
  • A mommy's boy and doesn't really go to anyone else besides Ben and I. whoops again.
  • Getting a little better in his carseat unless it's longer than about two minutes HA!
  • Loves to be outside, no fear of grass, dirt, woodchips etc.
  • He is completley off baby food and pouches, won't even take one bite. Kind of a bummer becasue piuches are so conveinent and filling and I have to be more aware of his meals and amking sure he is getting enough vegetables, protein etc.
  • Favorite foods are pasta, rice and black beans.
  • A very impulsive grabber, leaper.
  • Can turn himself around and go down stairs and even off our high bed by rapelling himself down by holding on to the duvet and slowly lowering himself.
  • Screamer. So loud. In a happy way. Especially when I turn on the bath, he loses it.
  • Adores Everett. Follows him everywhere.
  • Naps twice a day. Wakes up around 7:30 and goes to bed around 7:30
I really can't believe he is going to be a year in a month. He is the best little buddy and makes us so happy.

^^^^My brother thinks he looks like Walter Fisk from Daredevil. He's not wrong.

^^^^Got into my lipstick and knew just what to do with it.

5 Beauty Products I Can't Live Without

I was inspired by this post from Cup of Jo about one of her editor's 5 products she couldn't live without. I love hearing about other peoples favorite things and recommendations so I thought I would show you mine. I want to do more lists in the future, like 5 kids products I can't live without, 5 nail colors, 5 cooking products etc.

Here are my 5 beauty products I can't live without:

Kiehls ultra facial moisturizing cream-My skin is super sensitive and when I try new things, it freaks out but this Kiehls lotion is tried and true and my ultimate love. I ran out of it for over a month and for the life of me I could not get to a Nordstrom to get a new one #RIPPROVONORDSTROM I was using my old clean and clear lotion and when I finally reunited with this dream cream I cannot tell you the difference it has made! My face is bouncier (it's a thing) and fresher and clearer and happier. The only con is it doesn't have any anti aging properties which I feel like I need to start.

The Wet Brush-K so blondes have more fun, but also blondes have a lot harder time combing through wet hair because damage and bleach and stuff...lovely. I don't know what I did before the wet brush. I lost it one time and instead of trying to brush my hair without it, I just didn't leave the house for like four days. Also it is so cheap. LIFE CHANGING PEOPLE!! RUN TO TARGET AND GET ONE!

K I'm cheating and putting my 4 favorite make up products as one item! So I love make up but am definitely not an expert. Have you guys seen some of those make up videos on youtube of like contouring and stuff? That is like voodoo magic and makes me feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. I still love to try new products though, I could spend hours in Sephora, so here are my fav make up products. Benefit Boi-ng Concealer-the tag line for this is literally 'industrial strength concealer'  and with the amount of sleep I DON'T get my bags have bags under my eyes, I feel like this stuff brightens me up so much. Benefit Gimme Brow-I have tried SO MANY eyebrow pencils, dipbrows etc. because my eyebrows are invisible without being filled in and this is my favorite by far. It gives texture, thickness and such a good color for blondes. I feel like it looks more natural than a pencil and doesn't take me nearly as long. Laura Mercier Bronzer-I have been on the hunt for a bronzer that wasn't glittery and sparkly forever but still had a natural color and I finally found it as a sample in one of those gift bag things and have been hooked. This one is matte, the formula goes on so smoothly and lasts forever. I use the color Dune.  And finally Clinique Chubby Sticks-These are my favorite products to wear on my lips. They don't dry my lips out like nearly every other lipstick I own, are so easy to apply and I love all the colors (my favorites are Woppin' Watermelon and Heaping Hazelnut) I always have one on me.

Moroccan Oil and Moroccan Oil Hairspray. I LOVE the smell of this stuff, like I use it as room freshener as well. The light oil is my favorite because I have fine hair and I just rub it in the ends and it smooths and hydrates and I get nice whiffs of it all day and I also love the hairspray because the formula is great but mostly for the smell.

Marcelle Eye Makeup Remover. I have been using this for ten years and I think you either love it or hate it. It is my favorite, but my sister hates the gel formula. It take everything off and is cooling on my eyes and leaves absolutely no residue, which I feel like most other makeup removers do.

My honorable mentions are
Nars Blush in Orgasm (such a pretty color on every skin tone).
MAC brushes, have had mine for 10 years and still look and feel brand new.
Pureology Shampoo and Conditioner (the purple ones) They smell sooo good and the conditioner is tingly and makes me feel fancy.
Philosophy body washes. They have the most amazing smells and are sudsy leave my skin so moisturized. I love giving these as gifts.
Revlon Colorstay Foundation-Been using this since high school, my very favorite drugstore make up product.

Ok there it is. I know a lot of that is pricier but most of these products last me FOREVER and I feel like since I only have to buy them like once a year sometimes you need to TREAT YO SELF!

What are your favorite beauty buys? Seriously I love hearing about this stuff!

Everett Says II

K Everett is the funniest little kid lately.  Here are just a few things I have written down that he's said that at least we think are funny.

playing hide and seek, he's hiding. "I'll give you a hint......I'm in the closet"

sees a crow or something in the sky and says very nonchalantly says "Oh look a pterodactyl"

"I think I need to floss myself"

So we watched the movie Pocahontas and as you may remember they call the Native Americans Savages....wweeeeelllll we were in the store and Everett saw a bow and arrow toy with pictures of some Native Americans on it and continued to say "Hey mom look at all those savages on that picture'

So I went off dairy with Patrick the first 6 months and anytime I would eat anything Everett took it upon himself to make sure I wasn't eating dairy. I was eating pasta and Everett says "Mom is that dairy? You don't want it to go into your boobs and hurt Patrick's tummy."

Walking into J Crew "Mom is this store going to be boring like Old Navy?"

Going over colors, I would point at a color and he would say what it was. I pointed to peach and he thought about it for a while and said very innocently I might add "Is it private color?"

He went through a phase where whenever we would give him anything or surprise him with something he would say so excitedly "I've always wanted one of these!" So one day we were at Trader Joes and it was really busy and Everett asked if he could have some water and I said sure and he gasped and said "Thank you mom, I've always wanted some water" Pretty sure people thought I deprived him of basic necessities.

"This is the better day of MY LIFE!"

After putting on a little performance I said good job Everett, and he was like "no mom please clap and say Bravo Bravo!"

"Mom, you're just the prettiest girl in town"

While we were in Canada, Everett and I were talking to Ben on the phone and planning the fun things we were going to do when we got back to Utah together.  We were talking about going on a camping trip and I said 'we could have smores and hotdogs' and Everett said "and maybe a nice salad to go with it"

The jets turned on in the hot tub on full blast Everett says "woah settle down guys"

Wakes up in the morning, looks out the window "Looks like a beautiful day to fly a kite"

Grabs some sunscreen for the pool "This is the perfect sunscreen for America"

I have no idea where he got this but for some reason he thinks diarrhea is called "Cafe-rhea" so sometimes when he is sick he will say "Oh no, I need to go cafe-rhea"

I told him he was funny, he said "No, I'm not funny, I'm cute"

"Mom do you want to be in a band with me? Actually you can't, you don't have a musical life plan"

I was putting some mouse in his hair one morning, and he was thinking and had a puzzled look on his face and then asked "Mom is this stuff cow?" No it's mouse "Oh ya a MOOSE, I forgot"

Here is the first post. Everett Says Part 1

Some pictures from his first day of Preschool!

This year we made the annual trip to Waterton, you know I love this little mountain town where my best childhood memories took place. I have said all I can about it before in these posts. I basically just want these pictures to show up on my chromecast slideshow on the TV throughout the day, so they have to go here.
